The Society might be described as seeking to preserve the environment of this part of Hertfordshire in general and of Datchworth in particular. Our view on planning applications is independent of the Parish Council’s but usually coincides. Footpaths and ponds, street furniture and traffic are among the matters in which we take an interest. At present we are spending little a subscription is not called for but anyone wishing to join the Committee would be welcomed.

Council Meetings

The Council normally meets at 7.45 pm on the third Monday of every month in Datchworth Village Hall. The Annual Parish Meetingis normally held during April. Agendas for these meetings are put on the Parish noticeboards. These are situated at Datchworth crossroads (near the Plough), Datchworth Village Hall, All Saints Church and Burnham Green Post Office. Members of the public are welcome to attend Parish Council meetings and may addresss the meeting if invited do so by the Chairman. The present Council was elected in 2003 to serve for a period of four years.

The Datchworth Bowls Club is an active society based at its own green on the Turkey Farm site in Brookbridge Lane. A full fixture list is maintained and social events are also held from time to time. Village Fete

This event is held on Datchworth Green each year on the second Saturday in June. It is organised by a Fete Committee and the proceeds are shared between All Saint's Church, Datchworth Village Hall and other, local charities.

Burnham Green Village Hall

This consists of a small hall (seating 50) with kitchen, toilet and car parking. It is run by a Management Committee elected at the Annual Meeting. Chairman: Les Davis (01438) 798768

Datchworth Village Hall

Pay phone - (01438) 812153. Consists of a large hall (seating 250) with stage, small hall (seating 60), committee room, large kitchen, bar, toilets and car parking. Situated at the lower end of Datchworth Green, it was opened in 1972 and is run by a Management Committee consisting of members elected at the Annual Meeting (normally held in May) and nominated representatives of the village organisations.

Casual hire for private functions, by individuals living within the Parish of Datchworth or by village organisations, under normal circumstances will be offered at a 25% discount off the current casualhiring rates.
